Preparing Your Home for Winter

Now that the days are becoming shorter and the leaves are changing color, it's a good time to start preparing your home for the upcoming winter season. Follow these tips to help get your home ready for the colder months ahead.

  1. Schedule an HVAC winter checkup
  2. Seal and insulate duct work
  3. Set your thermostat to 68 degrees F
  4. Use a programable thermostat to set your home's temperature a few degrees cooler while you are away
  5. Check or change your air filters monthly or as needed
  6. Air seal the lowest and highest points in your home
  7. Inspect attic for proper insulation
  8. Check for water leaks
  9. Protect pipes from freezing
  10. Inspect windows and door for air leaks
  11. Move curtains and furniture away from baseboard heat and space heaters
  12. In the winter run your ceiling fan on low in a clockwise direction to circulate warmer air down from the ceiling
