How to Handle Outages

If your service is interrupted:

  • Check your fuses or breakers to make sure the problem is not your own.
  • Find out if your neighbors have service. This gives the cooperative some idea of the extend of the outage.
  • Call us to report the trouble. Dial (757) 787-9750 or text us at (855) 940-4016. If calling, be prepared to provide your name as it appears on your electric service bill, as well as your home telephone number.
  • We use a computerized outage system that enables us to predict the cause based on the members who have called. This system accesses your account by telephone number, so it's important that we have your correct number on file to ensure the fastest possible restoration of service. The cooperative uses an automated metering system that alerts the utility when power is lost at individual homes, allowing crews to quickly identify affected areas even if customers cannot call in. However, if you are able to report your outage, the cooperative encourages you to do so.
  • If you have any information about the cause of the outage (tree or limb on the line, broken pole, etc.) please tell the dispatcher. This will also speed the restoration of your service.
