SurgeAssist is A&N Electric Cooperative’s newest electronics protection program line in its Member Products and Services that helps you with protecting against extensive repairs from surge-related issues. SurgeAssist can be used in addition to or in lieu of the Cooperative’s Meter-Treater program. Residential members are eligible for the program simply by being a member of the cooperative with residential service.
Call us at 757-787-9750 or fill out the SurgeAssist Claim Form Request within 7 days of the damage and we'll email, fax or mail you a claim form. We must receive the claim form within 30 days of your receipt of the form. Have a licensed repair technician or facility of your choice assess the damage and provide you with a repair estimate/invoice. If it is not repairable, simply obtain a replacement estimate from a local retailer. Attach any estimates, receipts or invoices to a completed claim form and mail it to the address listed on the form. You should receive your payment in approximately 30 days from the date we receive your documentation in our office.
Protection under the program starts thirty (30) days after the first payment is received. We also must receive your completed claim form along with all required documentation in order for you to receive a payment for your claim. If an item cannot be repaired, it will be replaced. Replacement cost is determined by make, model and other features that are available on the market today.
Our program is offered at $4.95 a month with a maximum of $2,000 annual protection coverage.
Electronic equipment in your home today is very complex and can also be expensive. If these items experience electrical disturbances at any time it may increase the likelihood for damage requiring repair costs, shorter life span of the unit or operating system, and even potential device failure.
Many of A&N Electric Cooperative’s residential members rely heavily on electronic devices and appliances in their personal and professional lives. SurgeAssist offers peace of mind that those valuable electronic items can be repaired or replaced in the event that they are damaged by a power surge.
Electronic equipment and appliance failure can be caused by short bursts of extra energy or brief periods of insufficient energy through the utility lines entering your home. These disturbances can be the result of the normal operation of electrical utility equipment, animals making contact with electric lines, lightning strikes, or weather-related problems. Since their invention, power systems have always had disturbances, also called transients, spikes or surges.
Spikes in the voltage of power coming to your home can enter through many different means: utility lines, satellite dishes, data lines, phone/cable lines, dog fences, irrigation systems, light poles, outside pumps, deep well pumps, septic tank pump switches, shallow well pumps, boating dock lifts and other low voltage systems.

If these items experience potential electrical disturbances at any time it may increase the likelihood for damage requiring repair costs, shorter life span of the unit or operating system, and even potential device failure.
A&N Electric Cooperative strongly recommends using high-end surge protectors. Members have the option to have a licensed electrician install surge devices beyond the meter at well pumps, HVAC units and breaker boxes. By doing this you will increase the protection to your electronic-sensitive equipment. SurgeAssist offers additional financial protection against losses within the home of up to $2,000 of repair or replacement coverage (in a rolling 12-month period) for just $4.95 per month.
Just call 757-787-9750 or fill out a brief contact form on our website and we will get you started! It’s that simple - we will take care of enrolling you in the program, and you will just pay the monthly fee for SurgeAssist when you pay your electric bill.
A&N Electric Cooperative wants to assist our residential members by providing a solution that covers the cost of repairs or replacement of electronic equipment and appliances within your home if damage occurs due to unexpected surges of electricity. HVAC systems, well pumps, personal electronics, appliances, televisions, and many more items within the home all have central electronic processors that control their functionality and these are all examples of items that are covered with this program.
