Generlink & Surge Assist

GenerLink

GenerLink logoA&N Electric Cooperative’s goal is to provide safe, reliable service to our members and to the community we serve. While the cooperative is committed to maintaining a high level of service reliability, outages are inevitable.

A generator can be a wonderful tool during an outage, but it can also be extremely dangerous. If used incorrectly, a generator can cause serious harm, property damage, or even death.

To aid members in safely connecting a portable generator to their home’s electrical system, the cooperative has established a GenerLink™ emergency transfer switch program for co-op members.

The GenerLink™ is installed behind the electric meter and does not require rewiring of a member’s electrical system. It includes an interlocking power cord for connection of a portable generator. The device detects when the generator is operating and automatically disconnects from A&N’s distribution system, eliminating a dangerous backfeed.

GenerLink Easy Set Up

The GenerLink transfer switch offers a safe and convenient way to connect your portable generator to your home’s electrical system during an extended power outage. This video breaks down connecting your generator to your GenerLink in 6 easy-to-follow steps. Please refer to your GenerLink owner’s manual as well as your generator’s operating manual for a complete set of instructions and safety tips.

SurgeAssist

SurgeAssist logoA power surge is a short burst of extra energy or brief period of insufficient energy. These brief variations in the flow of energy can damage electrical devices, especially sensitive electronic equipment, and result in equipment damage or failure. Surges can be caused by events such as lightning, trees contacting power lines, vehicle accidents, or activities inside the house. Surges can travel along power lines, as well as telephone and cable TV lines. They can also be caused by the starting and stopping of appliance motors within the home.

How will SurgeAssist help me?

Electronic equipment in your home today is very complex and can also be expensive. If these items experience electrical disturbances at any time it may increase the likelihood for damage requiring repair costs, shorter life span of the unit or operating system, and even potential device failure.

Many of A&N Electric Cooperative’s residential members rely heavily on electronic devices and appliances in their personal and professional lives. SurgeAssist offers peace of mind that those valuable electronic items can be repaired or replaced in the event that they are damaged by a power surge.

What are causes of electronic equipment and appliance electronic equipment failure?

Electronic equipment and appliance failure can be caused by short bursts of extra energy or brief periods of insufficient energy through the utility lines entering your home. These disturbances can be the result of the normal operation of electrical utility equipment, animals making contact with electric lines, lightning strikes, or weather-related problems. Since their invention, power systems have always had disturbances, also called transients, spikes or surges.

How do outside electrical disturbances come into my residence?

Spikes in the voltage of power coming to your home can enter through many different means: utility lines, satellite dishes, data lines, phone/cable lines, dog fences, irrigation systems, light poles, outside pumps, deep well pumps, septic tank pump switches, shallow well pumps, boating dock lifts, and other low voltage systems.

Do I need to be concerned about electrical disturbances?

Yes. Electronic equipment in your home today is very complex and can also be expensive. If these items experience potential electrical disturbances at any time it may increase the likelihood for damage requiring repair costs, shorter life span of the unit or operating system, and even potential device failure.

What are ways to protect my home electric equipment and appliances?

A&N Electric Cooperative strongly recommends using high-end surge protectors. Members have the option to have a licensed electrician install surge devices beyond the meter at well pumps, HVAC units, and breaker boxes. By doing this you will increase the protection to your electronic-sensitive equipment. SurgeAssist offers additional financial protection against losses within the home of up to $2,000 of repair or replacement coverage (in a rolling 12-month period) for just $4.95 per month.

What does the SurgeAssist program protect?

A&N Electric Cooperative wants to assist our residential members by providing a solution that covers the cost of repairs or replacement of electronic equipment and appliances within your home if damage occurs due to unexpected surges of electricity. HVAC systems, well pumps, personal electronics, appliances, televisions, and many more items within the home all have central electronic processors that control their functionality, and these are all examples of items that are covered with this program.

Will SurgeAssist provide me with coverage if I already have a homeowner’s policy to cover these events?

Yes, and you will find our program much easier on the wallet because some homeowner's insurance policies can have a deductible as high as $2,500. The best part of A&N Electric Cooperative’s SurgeAssist Program is having the costly repairs paid for by the program without a possible increase in your homeowner's insurance premium. No hassle, just a program that assists you in getting your home electronics repaired or replaced easily.
