The recent nor'easter brought strong winds, heavy rain and coastal flooding to the Eastern Shore, resulting in scattered outages across the A&N Electric Cooperative service territory.
From Wednesday, Sept. 23, through Monday, Sept. 28, a total of 761 A&N members were affected by outages. The primary causes were tree and limb damage, weather and lightning, and tracking issues caused by wind-driven saltwater.
Flooding in Chincoteague also caused several isolated, longer-duration outages when underground transformers were flooded. Crews had to wait for tidal waters to recede before safely accessing the equipment and making repairs.
At its height, the storm brought north winds of approximately 26–31 mph, with gusts reaching 40–43 mph.
The broader storm system affected more than 40 million people from the Mid-Atlantic to Maine and caused an estimated 130,000–150,000 customer outages across the region.
We appreciate the hard work of our crews and employees who responded throughout the storm to safely restore service for our co-op members.
